# Accelerator Keys

> Accelerator Keys is a macOS menu bar app that makes Windows-style Alt key shortcuts (ribbon accelerator keys / KeyTips) work in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint for Mac. Press Option instead of Alt, then type the same letter sequence you know from Windows — for example Option, H, O, I for AutoFit Column Width. It is the direct fix for "Alt shortcuts don't work in Excel on Mac".

## What it does

- Adds 900+ Excel and 380+ PowerPoint Alt key ribbon shortcuts to the native Mac apps. No Windows, no virtual machine, no reboot.
- Shows on-screen KeyTip badges on the ribbon when you press Option, like Excel for Windows.
- Runs natively on Apple Silicon and Intel Macs, inside macOS. Works offline.
- Supports legacy Excel 2003 Alt+E, Alt+I, Alt+O, Alt+D sequences (for example Alt+E+S+V Paste Special).

- Platform: macOS only. Requires Accessibility permission (it reads keystrokes and drives the ribbon).
- Apps: Excel and PowerPoint for Mac (Microsoft 365). Word support is not yet shipped.
- Excel for Mac's own KeyTips option (off by default) is limited and does not replace Windows accelerator keys: many commands have no letter (AutoFit/Alt+H+O+I), the legacy Alt+E/I/O/D menus are missing, combined presses do nothing, and Esc cancels the whole sequence. Accelerator Keys covers the full 900+ set with visible KeyTip badges, as fast as native Excel for Windows.
